The Vikings are members of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), Region XIX and the Garden State Athletic Conference (GSAC).

Mercer has won national championships in men's soccer (eight), women's tennis (four) and men's basketball (two). Entering the 2009-10 school year, 183 student-athletes have earned national All-American honors while competing at Mercer (36 two-time winners), and hundreds more have gained Region XIX and GSAC honors. Since 2005, all eight sports have played in NJCAA national or district tournaments, and eight of the nine sports have captured Region 19 championships. Men's soccer has won eight straight Region XIX titles and gone on to reach the NJCAA Division I Championships each time.

Many Mercer student-athletes successfully transfer with full-tuition scholarships to four-year schools throughout the United States.

In addition to their success on the playing field, Mercer student-athletes know that to further their collegiate career they must excel in the classroom. Each athlete must agree to academic monitoring and requirements. Progress reports are communicated between the athletic department and faculty advisors. Tutoring is available where necessary, and all support systems are offered to student-athletes to help them achieve academic success.
